Mein 2025: Lieblingskonzerte

Viele schöne Konzerte, die ich in diesem Jahr erleben durfte: Zum Beispiel das Duo Stiehler/Lucaciu in der Leipziger Propstei und Lenny Kravitz in der Berliner Uber Arena, The Ocelots und playaplaya! (beide im Neuen Schauspiel in Leipzig) und Die Höchste Eisenbahn in Jena. Auch „klassische“ Musikmomente gab es reichlich, etwa beim Chor der Frauenkirche und der Chursächsischen Philharmonie Bad Elster in der Frauenkirche Dresden, dem Collegium Musicia Werdau und Cantico Chemnitz in St. Bonifatius in Werdau oder das Ensemble Lachrymae in der Leipziger Propstei – Musik aus ganz unterschiedlichen Zeiten und Kontexten; ich freue mich über diese wilde Mischung.

Müsste ich zwei besonders intensive Konzertmomente herausgreifen, fiele meine Wahl auf die Robert Cray Band im Leipziger Anker im Frühjahr und den Rolling Stone Beach am Weißenhäuser Strand an der Ostsee im November. Nachdem mich Crays Musik mein Leben lang begleitet hat, konnte ich den Bluesgitarristen endlich auch mal live erleben. Das lange Warten hat sich sowas von gelohnt – Crays Können, seine Bühnenpräsenz und sein Witz haben mich umgehauen. Das Indoorfestival des Rolling Stone stand schon länger auf unserer Bucketlist und hielt jede Menge musikalische Entdeckungen (Roo Panes, Amos The Kid, Bilk, MRCY, Old Mervs, Jade Bird …) und eine rundum gute Zeit mit Freunden bereit.

Was mein eigenes Musikmachen betrifft, war es 2025 aus verschiedenen Gründen etwas ruhiger. Umso schöner, dass 2zueins! im November in voller Bandstärke zwei Sets im Rahmen einer Familienmesse in Borna spielen konnten. Ja, das macht immer noch Spaß – und im nächsten Jahr geht’s weiter.

Mein 2025: Lieblingsalben

10 Amos The Kid – Enough As It Was
Mein Musikjahr 2025 war, rückblickend betrachtet, von vielen alten Bekannten und eher wenigen Neuentdeckungen geprägt. Was ja okay ist. Amos The Kid gehört zu letzteren. „Enough As It Was“ erschien in Amos Nadlersmiths Heimat Kanada schon 2023; das Gand Hotel Van Cleef sorgte jetzt für den Europa-Release, wodurch Künstler und Platte auch auf meinem Radar auftauchten. Wunderbar wunderlicher Rock mit gelegentlichen Country-Einsprengseln.

9 Jan Plewka – Eine Art Soloalbum
Etwa seit der Pandemie werkelte Selig-Sänger Jan Plewka an diesem Projekt; einem Mix aus Tagebuchschnipsel-Patchwork-Lyrics, Gemälden und Musik. Im Kern ist „Eine Art Soloalbum“ eine Sammlung melancholischer Lieder, die bisweilen mehr Chanson als Pop sind und absolut einen Nerv bei mir treffen.

8 Galactic and Irma Thomas – Audience With The Queen
Irma Thomas kam 1941 zur Welt und wird als Soul-Queen von New Orleans verehrt. Schon zuvor hat sie mit den Musikern der Funkband Galactic zusammengearbeitet, nun war es Zeit für eine ganze gemeinsame Platte. Und was für eine! Klassischer Soul (ein wenig Gospel hier, ein wenig Motown da) mit einem modernen Twist, gekrönt von Irmas über jeden Zweifel erhabenen Gesang.

7 My Morning Jacket – is
Nach vier Jahren Studiopause versucht es die Band um Jim James erstmals mit einem externen Produzenten (Brendan O’Brien). Waren die Songs auf dem Vorgängeralbum eher psychedelisch-ausufernd; kommt „is“ komprimiert und auf die Songkerne konzentriert daher. Vermutlich exakt der von My Morning Jacket erhoffte Effekt. Zehn tolle Stücke in kurzweiligen 39 Minuten.

6 Max Pope – Praise Animal
Das Debüt „Counting Sheep“ begeisterte mich 2022 durch den souligen Folkpop, den Max Pope darauf offerierte. „Praise Animal“ klingt anders, macht aber genauso Spaß. Pope macht sich’s musikalisch irgendwo zwischen Portugal. The Man und Arlo Parks gemütlich und ich höre ihm gern dabei zu.

5 Josh Ritter – I Believe In You, My Honeydew
Josh Ritter haut seit Jahren ein gutes Album nach dem nächsten raus. Was ihm offenbar nicht immer leicht fällt: Statt in einer Schreibblockade auszuharren, begann Ritter, Songs an seine Muse zu schreiben – gerichtet also an jene Inspiration, die ihn vermeintlich gerade im Stich ließ. Interessante Methode, die ihn letztlich aus seinem kreativen Loch rauszog und uns zehn herrlich unaufgeregte Lieder beschert hat.

4 Garish – Am Ende wird alles ein Garten
„Nicht jeder ist verrückt, ich weiß, doch es sieht so aus. Das ist keine Hand, das ist eine Faust“ – „Schwerelos, wie geht das noch? Komm ich schieß Dich auf den Mond“ – „Es gibt, und ich glaub fest daran, ein Leben nach der Geisterbahn“ …: Die knuffigsten Songtexte des Jahres kamen in diesem Jahr aus dem Burgenland. Garish gelingt schon seit langer Zeit immer wieder grandiose Musik, „Am Ende wird alles ein Garten“ markiert dabei einen neuen Höhepunkt.

3 Spin Doctors – Face Full Of Cake
Die allermeisten hatten für 2025 wohl kein neues Spin Doctors-Album auf ihrer Bingocard. Die eingeschworene Fangemeinde wartet hingegen schon seit drei Jahren sehnsüchtig auf den Release der Platte. Auch mit Neuzugang Jack Daley (seit 2021 am Bass) bleibt die Band ihrem Trademark-Mix aus Rock und Funk treu, altert in Würde und klingt trotzdem frisch. Mein Fanherz ist glücklich – abgesehen davon, dass die Spins seit mehr als zehn Jahren nicht mehr auf Europatour waren.

2 Michigander – Michigander
Der Indiepop von Jason Singer aka Michigander fasziniert mich. Da singt einer unverblümt von seinen Sorgen, Konflikten und Hoffnungen und packt das in zuckersüße Melodien und hymnenartige Refrains. Zehn Jahre im Geschäft, mehrere EPs veröffentlicht, jetzt endlich das Albumdebüt. Diese Songs wurden in Windeseile zu neuen besten Freunden, die ich wieder und wieder und wieder treffen möchte.

1 Goose – Everything Must Go / Chain Yer Dragon
Jawoll, zwei Alben besetzen in diesem Jahr Platz 1 – in dieser Liste wie in meinem Herzen. Goose haben nämlich gleich zwei XXL-Studiowerke rausgehauen, die mich begeistern. „Everything Must Go“ ist dabei die etwas aufpoliertere, kaleidoskopartigere Angelegenheit, während „Chain Yer Dragon“ näher am Livesound der Band ist und durch den Kosmos aus Geschichten, Typen und Mythen besticht, in den Goose ihr Publikum ziehen. Für beide gilt: Das ist musikalisches comfort food im besten Sinne. Jedes Hören ist ein Nachhausekommen und hält selbst nach dem x-ten Durchgang noch Überraschungen und neue Details bereit.

Mein 2024: Ein Fazit.

Über bevorstehende Veränderungen habe ich hier vor einem Jahr gemutmaßt. Wie sehr sich Dinge in meinem Leben ändern würden und an welcher Stelle, war mir da natürlich noch nicht klar. Nur wenige Tage später, am 5. Januar, starb mein Vater – nicht gänzlich unerwartet, aber doch überraschend. Gut zehn Jahre nach meiner Mutter.

Ich hätte nie gedacht, wie anders sich das Leben anfühlt, wenn die Eltern gegangen sind. “Waise mit 45 Jahren.“ Das ganze Jahr über hat mich dieser Gedanke beschäftigt, begleitet, umgetrieben. Ja, ich vermisse meinen Vater sehr. Bei aller Traurigkeit wäre es töricht, 2024 als verloren oder schlecht abzustempeln und wegzuheften. Ich bin auch diesmal wieder dankbar für viele schöne Momente mit Freund*innen und der Familie, für berufliche Erfolge und Herausforderungen, für spannende Reisen und jede Menge Musik – was für ein Segen, das schreiben zu dürfen. Und doch war und ist da eine gewisse Schwere, die mir dieses Jahr nicht von der Seite gewichen ist.

Am treffendsten ist es wohl, dieses Jahr als zu viel zu bezeichnen. So gesellen sich zur dankbar-demütigen Rückschau auf 2024 diese Wünsche für 2025: etwas mehr in mir selbst ruhen zu können und Zeit zum Luftholen zu haben.
